A password-protected directory or area is a folder which may be accessed only when a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized people may observe its content. This option can be used for the primary folder of a given website or just for a particular subfolder based on your requirements. As an example, if you are creating a new Internet site and you do not want people to see it prior to it being ready, you might want to restrict the access to it as a whole, and if you would like only some people to be able to access specific files, you could password-protect only a certain folder, while the remaining portion of the website could be seen by anybody. In either case, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear when the login details the visitor enters are not correct. Even a direct link to a file shall not work so long as any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
With the password protection tool that is included with each and every cloud hosting
plan which we provide, you shall be able to secure any content that you have in your account with simply a few mouse clicks. Since the tool is an element of our ground breaking Hepsia Control Panel, it offers the same simple interface and you will not require any special skills to use it. As soon as you go to the Password Protection section, you will need to choose one of the domains or subdomains that you have in the account and then choose whether the protection should be turned on for the main folder or for a subfolder. Then type in the username and the password you want and you'll be all set to go. A tiny padlock icon inside the File Manager section will tell you that a particular folder is password-protected. In the same way you'll be able to include multiple usernames and passwords for the same folder if you want several people to have their own login credentials.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server
account with us, you shall be able to protect any content you have uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's a part of, so you'll not have to type in any code at any time. You'll only need to select one of the domains/subdomains that you have inside the web hosting account and to choose which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then type the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be all set. The protection shall be switched on right away, so anyone that attempts to access the recently secured folder will have to input the right login info. When various people should be able to open precisely the same content, you can create a separate username for each of them.
