Every single PC or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which interacts with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, along with any apps that are currently installed on your system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, every single application runs within the parameters specified by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, and so on. This goes for both standard site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. If a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server plans come with three Linux distributions which you may select from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being free, the OSs are extremely stable and risk-free and the primary reason to offer the 3 of them is to make sure that you will be able to run every app that you'd like, as different pieces of software have different requirements about the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of developers who have made many hundreds of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. In accordance with the Operating System that you select, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your hosting content. Also, in case you decide that you need another OS, we can always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on the server as different applications may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and safe web hosting service. Depending on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you intend to run. We can also upgrade your OS routinely in order to keep it as risk-free as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
